OK, so a coworker of mine recommended this place for lunch. He said that it's a favorite of the governor's so I thought, "Hey, if it's good enough for a politician, it's good enough for me."
Sandy's is in the industrial part of town headed toward the airport, so if you're driving there and feeling like "there's no way in hell there's a good/non-sketchy food joint out here" then you're headed the right way. You'll cross some terrible railroad tracks, spot the glistening steel of a scavenger yard in the distance, and there's Sandy's.
Walk in and it's clear that this place was once just a home, now retrofitted into a diner. You don't pay at first; instead, the lunch price is set - you can get as much from the buffet as you want (only one hamburger steak per person though!) plus tea for $7. A slice of pie is extra.
The food is down home southern cooking, so leave the diet at home. You'll leave full though. The food was excellent, didn't seem like anything was out of the can.
Great ambience, I really recommend it for someone trying to get a feel for Arkansas while they're in Little Rock. -

All you can eat buffet tucked into a little house. Amazing Chicken and Dumplings (on Wednesdays).

I would highly recommend Sandy's. The best home cooked food in town. Fabulous! The owner and cook, Sandy, is lovely. She makes everyone feel welcome. All the food is homemade. Her pecan pie will knock your socks off! Enjoy!

The food was fantastic! Terrific find in the east end of Little Rock. Had no clue it was back there. It is a rickety yellow house that has an open dining area with flea market styled furnishings, but the delicious home-cooking is served fresh in a typical buffet layout. Offerings include two entrees and a variety of expertly prepared country vegetables. A great lunch meal - they only serve lunch, and pull the food promptly at 1:45p.

The plate lunch, pay after you eat concept is still odd to me. The restaurant offers a limited buffet daily with good old souther fried dishes. I had a chicken fried steak which was great. This is not a low calorie destination by any sense of the word but a nice little find WAY off the beaten path. I never would have found if I hadn't been with coworkers in the know.
